Not a House-ism, though clearly a play on words of his normal “Everybody lies”, that’s the line which most spoke to me in the House, M.D. season finale last night:
“Everybody dies.”
It’s plain and simple truth.
A truth for which too many people are ill-prepared.
As Jim Eliott was known to say:
“When it comes time to die, make sure that all you have to do is die.”
Wondering if you are prepared?
The Message of 3:16
Oh, and while “Everybody dies” was the quote which most spoke to me last night, it *wasn’t* my favorite quote of the night. That *is* a House-ism:
“I had a heart attack this morning. I can’t do any more drugs ’til at least lunch.”
A written re-cap of last night’s episode can be found at the Watching House blog.
And being a geek of great proportions (meaning the proportion of geekness to non in my brain and life…no comments on my waistline…) I had to go hunting until I really *understood* this whole issue of the Amantadine poisoning which led to Amber’s death. I found Polite Dissent which has medical reviews of each episode.
In the review for “Wilson’s Heart,” last night’s finale, Scott explains:
“The writers are correct in that Amantadine is poorly cleared by dialysis, and there have been deaths reported on the medication. The dose for the flu is 100MG twice a day. The only size pill Amantadine comes in is 100MG, so Amber taking two means that she was overdosing herself on it, so she bears some of the blame for this.”
Thanks, Scott! Very helpful!

I never really thought to put any blame on Amber’s shoulders. I can see that with the characters, they are going to have a big guilt-trip-o-rama after what happened, but House surely wasn’t to blame. I wonder if this is going to eventually strengthen the friendship between House and Wilson. Bad things happen to good people all the time, so it will be interesting to see how the writers use all of this in the “betterment” of House.
Oh, and do you think that they were insinuating a believe in ‘life after death’ with Amber talking to House on the bus? Or was he basically just talking to himself?

But Amber’s taking amantadine was only part of the problem…the blunt injury from the bus accident damaged her kidneys.
I like House. Just wish the writers would stop trying to interject more and more sexuality in the series to keep ratings up. (This week wasn’t near as bad as last time).
Love the Jim Elliot quote, Kari…isn’t that the truth!

*clapping hands*
Yay! People to chat with about House!
Jenna~
I read something in the comment box of the medical review later about the amantadine…she was still within normal daily limits for an adult, so the two at a time may *not* have been such a big deal after all. Ah well, I guess even when we’ve just suspended disbelief we can be searching to make sense of things.
I thought it was interesting that House was crying at the end of the deep brain stimulation…such a human side. I’ve read some comments round about that it was because of his feelings for Amber. My gut says it had more to do with his friendship with Wilson. I suppose the writers know…
I have really been fascinated with that scene on the bus where House walks away from Amber and off the bus without a limp. I missed the explanation during the episode where they explained what had happened to House. Before I read the re-caps later, I had just assumed that he *had* died for at least a brief period of time…
But then would it be assuming too much to assume that whoever was writing believed 1. In an “afterlife” and believed 2. People will be healed there and believed 3. Wherever that place is that we’re healed House would be going? And Amber too?
Probably not.
I’ve found very few people to be willing to believe this life is all there is ~ so without the Truth, they make it up as they go along.
They can’t change House’s personality and temperament too much or they change the show completely. While I’d want very much for him to change if he weren’t a character, I read where the producer discussed that if they change a character too much they ruin the show. Which is true. So unless they already intended for Season 5 to be “the end” they can’t change House’s character too much.
On the other hand, my wee brain couldn’t handle it for there not to be some tension after all of this…
Well, except for with Kutner, of course.
But since this is the first season I have watched, I don’t know enough about the character development in the preceding three seasons. Guess I got me some catching up to do during the summer. Hope the library has the dvd’s!
Hey Vicki, I understood that part on one level, it’s just that one pill plus the accident just didn’t quite make sense to me. Uh, not that it has to! I was just trying to grasp the whole “take a flu pill and get hit by a bus and die, ultimately, because of the flu pill.”
And I agree completely about the sexuality. I was literally uncomfortable sitting next to Mark watching that episode. *He* was only uncomfortable when I covered his eyes and told him to stop watching…
